Supper Clubs

To ensure King’s Way UMC continues to be a living, active, and community-focused church, in fall of 2024 King’s Way UMC is launching Supper Clubs.

The discipleship team at King’s Way is organizing the supper club ministry to promote fellowship and connectedness within our church community.  Supper Club is an avenue for the expression of, not only enjoyable, lighthearted conversation, but also Christian hospitality.

It for newcomers to build relationships outside of Sunday mornings as well for long time members to meet people outside of their familiar circles.

The only agenda is to get to know one another better and share food and fellowship.  There is no program – just dinner, hospitality, and conversation.  There is one requirement – show courtesy to your host by giving them an RSVP.

All adults 18 and over who attend King’s Way UMC (members, regular guests, and visitors) are invited to participate.  Since the Supper Clubs will be hosted off-site families with children are responsible for arranging their own children care when your Supper Club meets.

Everyone who signs up (in the church lobby or online) will be assigned to a Supper Club of approximately eight people. The goal is for each group to meet three times before the end of December. The group will decide on the location, date, meal, who is contributing what, etc.  If you are meeting in someone’s home typically the host will provide the entrée and the others will bring sides (salad, sides, dessert, beverages, etc.).

To help narrow preferences slightly, we have broken the Supper Clubs into three categories, and we want you to sign up for you are most interested in:

18–35-year-olds:  This category is designed for young adults who are interested in meeting other young adults within the King’s Way community.  The Supper Club category may meet in-home or at restaurants – it will be up to each individual group to decide.

In-Home: This category is for all ages and will always meet in a group member’s home.  It will be the group’s responsibility to decide if you rotate homes or meet at the same person’s home each week.  In-home meals are usually potluck style: the host usually makes the entrée, and everyone brings the rest of the meal (sides, dessert, beverages, etc.), but it is up to each group to determine the specifics.

Restaurant: This category is for all ages and will always meet at a restaurant.  The group will work together to decide where and when they want to meet.  All group members will be responsible for paying for their own meals.

When you sign up, there is a place to indicate days you simply cannot participate.  There is also a place to indicate if you are interested in being a coordinator.

(Please note even if you do not indicate that you want to be a coordinator, you may still be asked to coordinate your group.  Every group need to have a coordinator for the Supper Clubs to be successful).

A coordinator will be selected from each group and will reach out to you the group by email or phone, and figure out the best day, time, and place for the group to first meet.  There are some online sites, such as perfpotluck.co or needtomeet.com, which might be helpful tools for schedule.

Spiritual Gifts Assessment

The United Methodist Church uses spiritual gifts to help our our members learn more about themselves, how God uniquely gifted them, and how to use those gifts for the benefit of the church and community at-large.

Each person has talents and gifts, given to them by God, which they can use to benefit others.

Lay Leadership

The United Methodist movement was a laity movement. For that reason, we want to support, encourage, empower, and equip every church goer to join the ministry of all believers.

Thanks to the Missouri Annual Conference, we have opportunities to learn, grow, and connect with laity all over the state through the Lay-Leader pathway. This pathway was designed with laity in mind, offering classes and teaching for becoming a more equipped Christ-follower.
